                                                                         CLASS DESCRIPTION

ACRYLIC PAINTING: Topics covered will include value, colour mixing, composition and brush technique. Students learn various techniques of applying paint to canvas starting with an under painting. A foundation in drawing is suggestedbefore taking a painting class.

CLAY BUST: Students are introduced to the process of clay sculpture by working from a live model. A bust study will be created
by sculpting a clay head on an armature which is fired, put on a base and a patina applied.

CLAY HANDBUILDING: Basic skills in the preparation and use of clay to create functional and non-functional pieces will be
covered. Emphasis on individual expression with clay is promoted.

CLAY WHEEL: Students learn basic skills in the preparation and use of clay on the wheel. While developing technical skills and
creating functional pieces, students are encouraged to be creative with clay.

DRAWING: The fundamentals of drawing and the "art of seeing " are emphasized. This class is a good foundation for all other 2D classes.

MIXED MEDIA: Mixing different mediums on one surface, students develop their composition using this multi-layering process. They will work with paint, charcoal, fabrics, image transfers, and found objects...to name a few.

WATERCOLOUR: Students will learn various techniques of applying watercolour paint to prepared paper. Colour, value, texture and composition will be emphasized.
